Garden Care
Early Season Clean-Up
Our groundskeepers start out the season by clearing planting beds of accumulated leaves, debris, and weeds. We cut back perennials and ornamental grasses.
Bed Preparation & Edging
Prior to mulching, we redefine beds and tree rings to create definition between turf, planting beds, tree rings, and hardscape areas.
Early Season Mulching
Excess mulch from the previous season is removed and disposed of offsite. Prior to mulching, we treat beds and tree rings with pre-emergent weed control. We apply brown dyed double shredded hardwood mulch to bed areas and tree rings.
Weed Control
We apply pre-emergent herbicide to all specified lawn areas in late winter or early spring to control the germination of annual grass weeds (such as crabgrass) and other annual weeds. If necessary, a post-emergent herbicide is applied in late spring or early summer to help control the growth of broadleaf weeds

Pruning Ornamental Trees, Shrubs and Hedges
We recommend horticultural pruning and shaping to ensure optimum health and appearance of your valuable ornamental trees and shrubs. Pruned trees develop a more aesthetically appealing canopy and have a better chance of surviving strong winds. The schedule for services is ongoing and depends on the type of plant, the rate of growth, and time of flowering.
Seasonal Color
Annual rotations typically take place two times per year but can be performed as often as preferred.
- As soon as it is warm enough we plant spring flowers such as pansies and fall blooming bulbs
- When summer arrives, spring flowers are replaced with heat tolerant varieties.
- As the weather cools toward autumn, another annual rotation can be performed. This may include pansies, spring blooming bulbs, fall perennials, ornamental cabbage, kale, and mums.
Landscape Systems Maintenance
Pond and Fountain
We start up the fountain in the spring. In the fall, we winterize and cover the fountain. If repairs or replacement parts are needed, your Dedicated Garden Manager will advise you of your options and schedule the work.
Irrigation System Maintenance
The spring start-up for the irrigation system takes place from April to May. Winterization of the system takes place from late October through November. There are three optional inspection and adjustment visits that can be scheduled May through September.
Lighting System Maintenance
We inspect and adjust the lighting transformers times per year. Technicians walk the property and adjust fixtures as necessary. Replacement of bulbs and/or fixtures will be billed on a time and materials basis
Cool Season Landscape Services
Leaf Removal
Leaf removal takes place from October through December. The beds, lawn, and hardscape areas will be cleared of leaves on each visit. This may require just one visit or take as many as ten. Leaves can be spread on-site, hauled away, or left for town pick-up (if applicable).
Winter site visits
We perform this service two or three times during January and February. It involves a general policing of the property to remove fallen tree limbs, trash, and small quantities of leaves that may migrate onto the property or come from late leaf drop.
Holidays & Special Occasions
We can accommodate special requests as necessary to help our clients get ready for special occasions or holiday parties. Some popular client requests are:
