Surrounds was faced with many challenges when hired to create a rustic outdoor living environment in a space that was already defined by an underground storage area and the lack of privacy in the backyard area.  Using various elements such as cedar, boulders, pavers, and flagstone, we created a serene place that gives you the feeling of privacy in the mist of a neighborhood.

The original wooden patio deck built on top of the underground storage area vanished and was replaced with a paver patio covered with a custom cedar pergola designed with double columns on 

all  four corners.  The beams, joists, and rafters are all composed of rough-sawn 4x cedar materials for a rustic appearance. 

We created a beautiful pool with a deck area providing plenty of room for pool side dining.  Two steps down and you are standing in the “sunken living room” complete with a stone fireplace with an elevated firebox for ease of use by the owner.  To continue the rustic feel of this environment, the stone hearth is flanked by boulders and Alaskan cedar trees help give you that "in the woods" feel.  Plantings incorporated into the design give splashes of color and add texture and interest.
