A “Landscape
Architects dream” is how we describe this project … it started with a blank
canvas, a brand new construction site. The owners asked for a pool, a small wood deck and unique
materials that would add to the grandeur of their new home.Surrounds design also needed to blend flawlessly
with the pool structure that was part of the home builders’ contract.
Our first big
challenge was to level out the lot to allow for the pool.Majestic is not often a term one uses when
describing a retaining wall, but in this case, it fits. The wall was built using segmental block and shows
off the custom iron railing that surrounds the pool area.We also positioned ground lights to illuminate
from the bottom of the wall into the trees adding to the evening ambiance.
We selected Porphyry
Brick pavers for the pool deck and walkways for their uniqueness and to bring
in color for this project. The natural variance
in brick colors blended well with the house and tied in nicely with pool structure
while adding pizazz to the pool deck.
The owners asked
that we keep the wood deck small and intimate.Surroundsdid just that.We also designed the steps to end at a
circular paver landing on the outside of the pool area for added safety.
A beautiful slab
stone and boulder stairway leads into the backyard where the combination of
naturalistic plantings makes this environment green year round by design.
